SUMMARY:  

Morris Area Public Library is looking for a fun, flexible leader who empowers change and has a good sense of humor.  We are a vibrant small town just off I-80 and our community represents the best of the midwest. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The following duties and responsibilities are not all inclusive.  Other duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Thorough understanding of excellent customer service practices with the ability to empower and motivate staff to provide exceptional levels of customer service
  • Create and present exciting, developmentally appropriate programs for children and their families
  • Actively participate in the development of our engaging Summer Reading Program
  • Participate in and supervise collection development, selection and weeding
  • Coordinate with and empower library staff through  best practices and clear positive feedback
  • Enjoy working with children of all ages to promote early literacy and lifelong learning
  • Create and conduct storytime, perform outreach activities and spearhead quarterly large projects (bus trips, picnics, overnight trips…)
  • Be comfortable presenting readers’ advisories, technology training and enabling patrons to read, explore and discover our library and their literary world
  • Create  attractive engaging book displays and foster a safe place for children and their families

JOB QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

  • Must be enthusiastic, friendly, punctual and possess a positive attitude
  • Exhibit strong leadership skills with the ability to empower team members and all staff
  • Familiarity with Children Collection and Programming
  • Previous experience working with children age 0 – 14
  • Computer skills and working knowledge of Google and Google Suite
  • Ability to exercise initiative with focused attention to detail
  • Knowledge of tools and current trends in children’s library services, child development, children’s literature and programming
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team player
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly  
  • Understanding of and ability to demonstrate Library Standards of Excellence for Public Libraries with a focus on Youth and Children’s Services

ADDITIONAL INFO & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Patron or customer service experience strongly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and previous library experience is preferred. 
  • Experience in Early Childhood Education or related field combined with library experience, or experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for the position is required
  • Any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work

Job Opening: Human Resources Bookkeeper

The Morris Area Public Library has a position open: Human Resources Bookkeeper.

SUMMARY:

We are growing, changing and looking to add support and empowerment to our staff.  Do you like an environment of engagement and sharing, away from the noise of a big city? We are looking for full-time HR and Bookkeeper, someone who knows budgets and people, someone with the experience to see how these vital pieces fit together. If your goal is to support others as they reach their goals, join our library staff as we grow into the future.

 We are looking for a positive engaging leader to work with our staff and board members through budgeting, accounts payable, and staffing Human Resources.  We are a new team dedicated to serving our community and need a bookkeeper who will be responsible for the organization and administration of the finances for our library related to the budgeting, planning and financial operations. This position will also support our staff through Human Resources strategies and practices.

Human Resources Bookkeeper 

Salary  $23.00 – $24.00 Hourly

Hours are Monday – Friday 9:00a- 5:00p (2nd Monday Board meeting) 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The following duties and responsibilities are not all inclusive.  Other duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Process invoices and maintain bookkeeping records, compile monthly statistics and reports
  • Public board agenda and minutes in accordance with the Open Meetings Act.  Compile, post and distribute monthly board packets.  Attend monthly board meetings (after hours) – take and transcribe minutes
  • Oversee Accounts Payable, be responsible for the payment of invoices and work with vendors for clarity and accuracy
  • Maintain personnel files, complete all new hire paperwork and complete all necessary paperwork upon employee separation from employment
  • Ability to prioritize the use of time and resources to meet the goals and needs of the library and community
  • Empower and facilitate staff through training and professional development
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with interests in leading and motivating staff
  • Integrity in working with employees and handling confidential information

JOB QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

 Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Associates Degree or two years of college coursework in Accounting or Business Management
  • Familiarity with HR resources and best practices
  • Computer skills and working knowledge of Google and Google suite
  • Ability to exercise initiative with focused attention to detail
  • Understanding of all audit information and filing procedures
  • Understanding fund accounting systems
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local employment law 
  • Ability to sit and work on computer for prolonged periods
  • Light to moderate lifting (up to 20 lbs)
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly  
  • Understanding of and ability to demonstrate Library Standards of Excellence for Public Libraries

Morris Battery Fire Financial Assistance Application

TO RESIDENTS EVACUATED DUE TO MORRIS BATTERY FIRE

Kendall/Grundy Community Action has been able to access grant funds to assist residents evacuated due to last week’s lithium battery fire on the east side of Morris.

Each household evacuated due to the fire is invited to apply for a grant.  The online grant is available at https://www.facebook.com/GrundyCOAD and at https://815941help.com/

Paper applications are available at:

  • Kendall/Grundy Community Action, 1802 N. Division St., Suite 602, Morris
  • We Care of Grundy County, 530 W. Bedford Road, Morris
  • Morris Area Public Library, 604 N. Liberty, Morris
  • Morris City Hall, 700 N. Division, Morris

The application lists the items that residents can use the grant for.  All applications are reviewed by staff of Kendall/Grundy Community Action to assure that all grants fit the parameters of the funding they have received.

Applications are due no later than Friday, July 23rd, 2021.  Kendall/Grundy Community Action will review each application as they are received and will distribute grants as they are processed.  Applicants will be notified as to if, when, and how they will receive their grant.

In addition to the funding received at Kendall/Grundy Community Action, donations are also being collected for this project via the Grundy County Disaster Fund.  All donations received through July 23rd will be used in the best manner to support individuals, families, and, if possible, the nonprofit organizations that have responded to this incident. The Community Foundation of Grundy County does not charge an administrative fee for processing donations in and out of the Disaster Fund.

The Grundy County Disaster Fund is administered by the Community Foundation of Grundy County in partnership with the United Way of Grundy County, assuring that both monies and volunteers are available to our county in times of disaster.
