Mission Statement- The Morris Area Public Library District Local History Department collects and preserves materials with historic and genealogical significance documenting the history of the town of Morris and county of Grundy. The Local History Collection's staff maintains these materials for future generations and provides access for use and research to the general public.
Collection Policy-The Morris Area Public Library District acquires materials for the Local History Collection related to the cultural, political, education, pictorial, family/genealogical, social, business, architectural, and geographical history of Morris and Grundy County. Formats are generally books, periodicals, microfilms, photographs, files, maps, and newspapers. Audiovisual formats may or may not be retained as technologies outdate and projection equipment is no longer available. Current formats include audiotapes, videotapes, stereopticon slides, CDs, DVDs, and slides.
All acquisitions become the unrestricted property of the Morris Area Public Library District. Staff, space, and budget limitations are considerations when adding new materials. Materials that fall beyond the scope of the collection, are duplicates, are inauthentic, need repair costing more than their intellectual value, or require special shelving or storage because of a unique format will not be collected. All materials must be free of dirt, mold, moisture, and pests, and must be in good or repairable condition. The Morris Area Public Library District reserves the right to remove materials deemed unsuitable to the collection. Materials may be moved to the circulating collection, offered to another institution, sold, or discarded.
The donating agency or individual is responsible for determining the legal status and value of any and all artifacts donated. All materials, outside of copyright restrictions, are made available for reproduction and potential publishing.
